Assessment 2

Up to assessment 2 for the major project now. Just did the presentation for it last Monday. It was a powerpoint/slideshow presentation sort of thing so it's a bit hard for me to show exactly what I did on the blog here. The best I could do to show you is post the slides that I made (below). Most of the slides were from photos I took myself in a makeshift studio in the corner of my room using lego men and various other toys and objects as props. I'd like to thank also Jonas whom I stole a photo from (it's the photo of the beach with DISASTER! written on it.)

Hopefully this at least gives you an idea of or at least the feel of the project. The final presentation should sum it up anyway.

Happy Easter

Hope everyone had a good Easter break! Back to work and uni now...

Assessment 1

This is the first assignment I've had for my major project so far. I think it was mildly successful. I say mildly because I'm still always confusing myself when I try and explain it so I think that came across in my presentation. (Why did I pick such a complex topic!)

Anyway, I sort of know what I'm doing now and if I do it right, it's going to be epic. At the moment it's kinda a system interface (although the final design may abstract from this) which allows people in disaster affected zones access to information regarding aid and other services/events currently happening.

I've been looking at a blog by Josh Harle which has a lot of stuff on these sorts of systems and most of it is pretty cool. Stuff like augmented reality, geosocial networking and other forms of virtual x physical worlds.

But for this assignment I'm only just expecting a pass. I really wasn't prepared for it. Just felt like I was missing the point that everyone else seemed to get. I hate that.

Nourishment and Procrastination

I am supposed to be working on my Major Project right about now, but to be honest I'm kinda stuck. So Kayo gave me a call and was like "Hey man, since me and Michael don't have licenses, can you drive us to get some lunch?" Reluctantly I agreed, hoping to squeeze out some inspiration from sitting at home, looking blankly at my art diary. But I figured at least going out would give me a chance to take artistic photos of japanese food because I haven't done that yet and all good blogs have artistic photos of japanese food.

Oh yeah, and I recently got a DSLR (Pentax K-x) and it's amazing. So it gave me another excuse to use it.

We went to TonTon in that weird centre on George St. TonTon is owned by Azuma who also has his own signature chain of "Azuma" restaurants. Since Kayo's dad is like best friends with him and Kayo worked there for some time, he usually gets us hook-ups and other crazy isht. But the food is also really good and pretty cheap. Here's what I got; Karaage Ramen and a Solo.

Kayo himself got Curry Udon.

Kayo got us all hook-ups with free drinks, just a shame I had to drive so I just got a solo.

Michael got what I think was Tonkatsu curry. I don't actually remember, but I'm sure it was delicious.

Chris, famed member of the Comehitthis franchise also came along and decided on a liquid diet of Easy-way.

For some reason Kayo was still able to eat after that and got a Snackbox from the Colonel, while Michael tried his luck with a Passionflower ice coffee: a rookie error.

Ah, this is supposed to be an artistic composition juxtaposing the cigarette butt to the top of the shot and a fallen KFC fry towards the bottom. Not quite sure what to interpret from that.

So to top it off these guys (Kayo and Michael) got Boost and we found this strange man on Town Hall steps, a pleasant relief from all the Emos that frequent the area. Michael was thrilled when the strange man allowed him to wear his hat and ring his bell. Look how happy he is!

Pig Slayer pt.2

On the topic of Pig Slaying and the Local Hero Dee Vee a.k.a Patrick Slayzee the Pig Slayer star of the action/adventure film Dee Vee's Adventures and the up coming classic Dee Vee's Adventures 2 Revenge of the Kernal.  I designed some vinyl stickers for the side of his and mutual friend, Josh Thorburn's 4x4s. It's more as a side project from their regular trade of sheet metal work that is based on custom mods for four-wheel drives and trucks, mostly for off road purposes.

I designed this logo to look dynamic and tough looking, much like their line of work. The slanted text is a representation of speed and mobility while the ink splatters are reflective of the off road type driving and the mud that coats their vehicles after being out in the bush.

For those who are unacquainted, this is the legendary Pig Slayer pt.2. The original being on a property in north west NSW somewhere. I don't believe it's technically road worthy anymore.
